Your name: Anett Farkas
Where are you located? Richmond, Virginia or at home in Budapest, Hungary.
Tell us a little about yourself: I am a Fashion Merchandising major at VCU graduating this May. I am passionate about the fashion industry and have hopes to work with a leading company as a Social Media Marketing Specialist or as a Buyer. Originally I am from Budapest, Hungary and I still go home every winter and summer break. What brought me to the States was volleyball; I played for 13 years and I am proud that I finished my career as team captain at VCU.
When did you start your blog? January 2013
Why did you decide to start blogging? When volleyball season ended I had to face a situation that was unknown to me: no one held me responsible to get up and work out at 6:30 am or go to practice every day. As an athlete these activities were the most natural things to me and suddenly I had all this time I couldn’t fill. Then I thought I could channel my energies into something else I had an interest and passion for. I really like styling, forecasting and cutting edge designers. Dress up has always been my secret way to escape. As a Hungarian my style has a European flavor to it and I felt like I had something unique to say and show. Blogging was a sudden idea but I am loving it as well as the fact that I have something that is completely mine to build and use as an outlet for my creative expressions.
Where are your favorite places to shop in RVA?
Fantastic Thrift – I discovered thrift shops in the States and they have become one of my favorite places to treasure hunt.
Shop Pump Mall – Where I go to find my European brands and style, somehow makes me feel at home.
Target – I always buy my music here and it was only recently that I discovered how awesome there clothing department is, both women’s and men’s. Not to mention their amazing collaborations!
How would you describe your personal style? I would say it is adventurous and expressive of my home country which is a mélange of many influences from around Europe. This then meets the American in me. The energetic and captivating style of the US has definitely influenced my dressing in the past four years I have spent here. I try to bring my style from off the beaten path, I always mix trends that fit my personality with one of a kind pieces. When dressing up in the morning I am always looking for a surprising twist in my outfit that will make my day.
Who is your style inspiration? First and foremost my mother. I still find it hard to shop without her, her input and ideas are always refreshing and surprising. I got my sense of style from her, no argument there. As for everyday inspiration I love to look at my favorite bloggers and the latest editorials.
If you could give any advice to other bloggers what would it be? Get out and meet with other bloggers for networking and mixers. Find out what is going on not only in your community, but also in major cities nearby. Wear heels. And always error on the side of overdressing, not underdressing!
